Dear Scott,

Yes, Don Pisor is currently listed in the Registry as having the record
Pleurotomaria rumphii. However, that doesn't mean there isn't a bigger
one out there. Word is slowly getting around that there is, again, a
place to register world size record shells and new records have been
flowing in steadily. The fact that a larger P. rumphii hasn't been
submitted may simply be a matter of the owner or repository not having
time to do it. Institutions are usually slower to respond in submitting
records than private collectors because museum personel are already
stretched to the limit, time-wise. We would love to include all the
records housed in museums in the Registry, but we realize in comparison
to their other duties and projects, registering world records is of
rather minor importance. It's usually volunteers (hint, hint) who take
the time to measure the shells in museum collections (except for Gary and
Jose, who seem to have the energy of three people).

I guess here would be a good place to mention that the deadline for
submitting new records to be included in the 1999 issue of the Registry
is May 1, 1999.

Best regards,

Kim Hutsell
