Dear Art,

All hybrids that I know of have charactaristics of both the parent
species. We are dealing with several Scaphella species off the coasts
of Florida (S. dohrni, S. gouldiana, and S. robusta) and apparently some
unnamed ones. I doubt if members of the subgenus Aurinia would mix with
them. (They are S. kieneri, S. schmitti, S. dubia, and S. georgiana). I
suppose the newly named Scaphella worki could be a hybrid of Scaphella
robusta and the spotted shell on the website but, the types of S. worki
come from the north side of the Gulf of Mexico. This is an area that I
have not seen the Scaphella in question come from.
I have not seen Scaphella atlantis and Scaphella bermudezi from a
locality off Florida. If they are found off this state, they are
resticted to small localities or possibly deeper water. They both have
very smooth sculptures.
If they are hybrids where are the parent species?
