an update...

today i found- with some trial and error- my way to Follys Creek in
Accomac VA, the type locality from the 1951 Nautilus paper...today its a
public boat launch with no shells, shell piles, or commercial fleet other
than one small oyster boat that i saw. A ride down "Oyster House Road"
ended in a dead end, private property, and nothing resembling an oyster
house at a much smaller saltwater creek.

i did find one dead large Urosalpinx ca 40mm. in some shell pile material
at Wachapreague VA.

afterwards, i went to Toms Cove in Assateauge for a good -0.2 low tide,
(unlike my last two visits.) It took a little effort, including traversing
some salt marsh and sloppy mud, but the population of large Urosalpinx
cinerea follyensis that i saw evidence of in 1976 is still present, there
were live shells, dead shells, crabbed shells, shells laying eggs.... i
wasnt able to measure any shells yet but 45mm or so is a reasonable
estimate. I was also able to find similarly large Eupleura caudata
etterae, ca 40mm maybe.... i hadnt seen those in 1976 but assumed they
could be there. the areas with Eupleura also had Nassarius vibex that
looked bigger than any i have seen from either the NE, or Florida.
