COMMENT;-
On missing shells. I spent a week at Folly Beach this last Summer.
Folly is 11 miles from Charleston---The Holy City. Charleston is on a
spit of land that separates the Ashley and Cooper Rivers which join to
form the Atlantic Ocean. Ask anyone.
(at any rate) There are always a myriad of Coquina that pop up and get
carried up and down the beach by the next wave. I found exactly two
(count 'em) two Coquina. I usually find Simnia attached to Sea Whips
which get stranded. No Sea Whips. There are always plenty of bumps in
the sand indicating moon snails and Busycon whelks. Down by about 80%.
Hermit Crabs bring up (my) Wentletraps, Ollivella, and a myriad of Et
ceteras. I think I found ONE Wentletrap in the whole week and darn few
Hermit Crabs doing much of anything.
No beach replentishment projects. No great storms. No new dumping
projects. No space aliens. I have no idea what happened. I hope it was a
temporary phenomenon.
Other than that, Mrs. Lincoln, How'd you enjoy the show?
