'In mesogastropoda... the stomach has evolved along the same lines of the
lamellibranchs, and within the style sac lies a cristalline style, a flexible
hyaline rod composed of muco-protein. The sac may form a closed caecum,
by-passed by the intestine, and the style loses all conection with the faecal
string. It retains however its attachment to the oesophageal food string which
is wound in by it as by a capstan. As the style rotates it is slowly thrust into
the stomach where its outer layers are dissolved, releasing amylolytic enzimes
gradually and continuously, independent of any secretory rhythm of the gut. The
crystalline style is not confined to ciliary feeders; all Rissoacea and
Cerithiacea posses it, while in the Strombidae and Xenophoridae - which fed upon
coarse, poorly sorted deposits - the style capstan is firm and robust, reaching
a length of more than half that of the animal.'
Molluscs - J.E.Norton - 1958

I understand this poorly; if someone explains it I will be very glad

I saw the scolding of a fisherwoman to his 10 years son because he has eated a
lot of mollusc meat (Astraea); she said that the molluscs have lots of energy
and that the poor lad was incapacitated to expel it, and that this was very
dangerous for the child.
