I remember eating Scungili as a kid.  It was the 'meat' from Busycon carica,
and my mom served it with a thin red sauce, like a watery marinara sauce.  It
was served over  very crisp (dry) quite peppery biscuits.  Catholics could
not eat meat on Fridays back then, and this was one of our Friday dinners.  I
haven't eaten this in 40+ years and don't intend to eat it ever again!
