The American Malacological Society is proud to announce the
recipients of its Year 2000 grants for student research.  As
always, all proposals were excellent and competition was
strong.  The grants will be offered again next February and
details can be found at the AMS web site.

The recipients are:

1. Kenneth A. Hayes, Department of Biology SCA 110,
University of South Florida, Tampa, FL.  $1000.  Evolution
of the Corona Complex in the genus Melongena (Gastropoda:
Melongenidae): Evidence from internal transcribed spacer
regions and microsatellite data.

2. Bridget Tiffany, Department of Biology, University of
West Florida, 11000 University Parkway, Pensacola, FL
32514.  $220.  Low oxygen tolerance and metabolism of
Octopus mercatoris.

3. Rebecca J. Rundell, Department of Zoology, University of
Hawaii at Manoa, 2538 The Mall,
Honolulu, HI 96822.  $700.  Phylogeny and origins of
diversity in the endemic Hawaiian Succineidae.
