Question: does anyone know of any present day 'celebrities' who collect
shells?  I think it was the Emperor Nero who used to be a keen conchologist,
but that was a while ago.  Who's waving the banner now?

The late emperor Hirohito of Japan was a  celebrity and also a  shell
collector. There are some publications about the shells collected by him.
