Here's one for the quote collectors. My calendar of 'Forgotten English'
cites the 'oyster part': 'An actor who appears, speaks or acts only once.
Like an oyster, he opens but once' (Ebenezer Brewer, 1898, Dictionary of
Phrase and Fable).
