Dear Conchlers and scietists on the list.

I am looking for a right English (or American) term. What do you call the
different looking
of shells (for species and subspecies of marine, landshells or freshwater
shells) from one population,
from the same locality and habitat, if you have collected also the same
day, eg. You know they
might have bands (more or less coloured) or any band (like in Chilostoma)
and also the pattern might
be high variable. Do you speak here from variability or variation for the
widesprade of variability.
The term variety is less than a form, but not of taxanomical value, to see
here the difference
I what I mean. I only mean the variability in color, bandings, shape, size,
etc. in one population
same locality and habitat, the difference what we in German call
"Variationsbreite".
Please send me your opinion.
with best shelling greetings to hear from you as soon as possible.
