From my Funk & Wagnals standard college dictionary:

Boreas: In greek mythology, the north wind.
Boreal: Pertaining to the north or the north wind.
Boreal: Describing a subdvision of the holarctic region, including the
great belt of coniferous forests extending from New England to Alaska.
