I have a request from an artist in Canada for a snail that eats paper. I
don't know of any such but thought maybe one of you on Conch-L could help.
Here is the request:

"I
am a visual artist invited to participate in the (famous) Bienal del Barro
de Amirica next June in Caracas - The Biannual is an artistic event grouping
artists concerned about ecological issues, or whose work deals with the
earth, the fauna and flora etc.

The Bienal accepted my project consisting of works on paper which are eaten
by snails.
I am looking to locate in Venezuela some kind of voracious species that can
actually devour paper. The work of art thus evoke among other things, the
speed at which these animals feed themselves, the type of lace pattern left
by them, the beauty of it, the disappearance of some flora, the recycling
process, the destruction and disappearance of a work of art, etc.
My project includes the return of the gasteropodes to their natural original
habitat.
I also know about barriers to avoid fugitive snails wandering into the
Museum... Any common snail would do the job and of course I do not want to
use an endangered species.

Indeed, I operate within a very limited budget and any information would be
appreciated. I speak Spanish fluently.

Regards,

Marion M. Bordier"
