Hi Mary Jo
I agree with Jordan. Compendium of Shells is a great 1st volume to add to a
shellers library.

But there are lots of other great books! It really depends of all the
directions you want to go, and of course how munch you want to spend.

You should be able to find it used for about $20 to $30.

A great alternate it Compendiums predecessor: Collectors Encyclopedia by S.
Peter Dance it has multiple editions and is in about a dozen languages. I
have found it brand new a bookstores like Half Price Books for as little as
$10.00

The last one I saw was in Corpus Christi. They also bought up much of the
remainder stock of R. T. Abbott's - Compendium of Land Shells. I think it was
$15 or $20

I am looking for everyone's opinion on the BEST, most comprehensive shell
book I can find. I am sure there is no one book to cover everything, so what
combination of books are the best?

Also, if I am to learn the Latin names, I must understand what they mean. So
where should I start with this?
