Folks,
The one review that I am aware of that deals with black ink is
"Williams, SL, et al. Inks for Documentation in Vertebrate Research
Collections. Curator 29(2): 93-108 (1986)." The study reviews 24 different
black inks and includes a chart that shows the resistance of the inks to
seven different solvents/chemical : water, formaldehyde, ethanol,
isopropanol, ammonia, bleach and glycerine. The study also looks at the
following properties of the inks: pH, corrosiveness, consistency and
opacity, total solids, drying time, color value, resistance to light, and
cost. If one is truly interested in black or India inks, this paper makes
interesting reading.

Regards,
Charlie
