Dear Jordan;
        Andrew is right: a using a good quality hand lens to magify specimens
is an excellent idea for macro work. Another way that works for many
cameras, is to simply get extremely close to the specimen with the
camera lens: i can get incredible resolution with my Mavica by holding
it about a centimeter away from small specimens. Forget about the
"digital zoom" feature: it is useless for increasing the resolution of
your photos; all it does is take a portion of the field of view and make
it digitally larger, excluding the rest. Only optical zoom and close-up
an optical magnification techniques will help you with macro work.

Much warmer up here in the still-great but not now white North.
