Thought the list would like to know that the Leisey Shell Pit is still open
under the Caloosa Shell Corporation. The 2004 COA Convention fossil trip
was held there. Frank Garcia often leads fossil trips to this location. It
has changed a lot over the years. The area we worked is not as old as some
in the past being a relatively new area within the complex. Most of the
species found are still found today. I now of at least one specimen of an
extinct geoduck species found during the trip. Harry Lee found a remakable
double-noduled Strombus alatus/pugilus fossil which I photographed from all
angles. As the pit grows deeper, older shells will be found. I also
photographed the pit to show what it looked like during the trip.
