I've been trying to hold my tongue but you guys kepp egging me on. As a
deer hunter (pace! Andrew), I have encountered more than my share, usually
not in season but from being out on club property well before. I use DEET
as a preventative and then sponge off with a 1% solution of Lysol (there's
Charlie's phenol) when I get in. It's really hard on the critters.
About five years ago we had a Swedish exchange student living with us and I
took him and my boys out to the hunting property in the summer. As we got
back to the car, he asked why his sneakers were red. We looked and, to our
horror, saw his feet were so covered with those red bugs that the sneakers
were a solid red! We started squashing immediately but he had itching
ankles for a while.
