Perhaps this software is about to become obsolete ?? ... the legislation
currently running through our Congressional houses will potentially be changing
the rules and list concerning Endangered Species. Please review the email
below that I received from The Ocean Conservancy today. You may want to see it
there will be a free upgrade available before buying the software.

The Ocean Conservancy
Update - Endangered Species Act

Dear Leslie,
Despite the best effort of thousands of American conservationists,
including hundreds of Ocean Conservancy activists, the House of
Representatives yesterday narrowly passed the so called Threatened and
Endangered Species Recovery Act of 2005 (HR 3824). If it becomes
law, HR 3824 will undermine The Endangered Species Act, making it much
harder to get species listed under the act and protect those species
already listed.

Unfortunately, the potential losers are the nation's sea turtles,
most great whales, manatees, and other endangered species.

Prior to final passage, the House of Representatives also narrowly
voted down the bipartisan substitute version of the bill designed to
improve the Endangered Species Act's effectiveness. We
thank the authors of the substitute for their efforts, Representatives
Miller (D-CA), Boehlert (R-NY), Dingell (D-MI), Gilchrest (R-MD),
Dicks (D-WA), Saxton (R-NJ), Tauscher (D-CA) and Kirk (R-IL).

We also thank the hundreds of you who were able to take the time to
call your Representatives yesterday on such short notice in support of
the Endangered Species Act.

All is not lost, however. HR 3824 will have to pass the Senate
before it becomes law. The bill will be referred to the Senate
Environment and Public Works Committee's Fisheries, Wildlife,
and Water Subcommittee. Senator Lincoln Chafee (R-RI) chairs
this subcommittee and the ranking member is Senator Hilary Clinton
(D-NY). Given the strong environmental record of these two
Senators, we hope the Senate version Endangered Species legislation
will improve and not undermine existing protections. We will be
working with them and other members of the Senate over the coming
months and keep you informed.

Thanks again for continuing to be strong advocates for wild, healthy oceans.

Sincerely,
David Dickson
Director of Constituency Development
The Ocean Conservancy
