In the Compendium of Seashells, the entry for Conus
adamsonii carries the comment that adamsonii are "not
uncommon" in the Phoenix Islands. Does anyone know the
genesis of that comment or which island in the Phoenix
group the authors might have been referring to?

I have reviewed the August 1992 issue of HSN
containing an article on Adamsonii distribution. That
article, along with the information in the Manual of
the Living Conidae, is about all I have been able to
find on habitat for Conus adamsonii. Can anyone direct
me to other useful information? Has anyone on the
Conch-L found this species alive?

I have a friend who reports collecting specimens of C.
adamsonii from both Minerva and Beveridge Reefs, but
only dead specimens with hermit crabs so depth and
substrate data are uninformative.
