As to why the change from -acea to -oidea, I have absolutely no idea.  This
ending was only a "Recommendation" in the 1985 Code.  Trying to find out why
changes are made is sometimes possible, but not always.  For years I have
been trying to find out who proposed Article 9.1 (and why) but the office of
the Secretariat (both the currenty office holder and his predecessor) do not
know, nor were either aware that it had any effect.

Contrary to popular belief among systematists, much of what is done in the
name of the ICZN is mandated by the Secretariat without consultation with
the Commissioners.  However, this particular change was probably discussed
and records should be available.
