Conchlers,

The Philadelphia Shell Show is now a little more than three weeks away! It takes place at the Academy of Natural Sciences, 1900 Parkway, Philadelphia PA 19103-1195 on October 7th and 8th. Admission times are 10 am to 5 pm. The largest shell bourse outside Florida will be open both days, and there will be a special book signing event on Saturday afternoon. The authors of 'Sailors' Valentines: their journey through history' will be on hand to chat and sign copies.
At 5:15 on Saturday there will be a special talk open to all by leading Conus expert Dr Baldomero Olivera. This will be followed by the banquet, held again this year in the Academy's Dinosaur Hall.
Banquet admission is by advance ticket only, and tickets are going fast, so if you are planning on attending now is the time to get yours. At the same time, why not also enter the Shell-themed Dessert Contest? Last year saw a great display of baroque creations that rounded out the banquet very nicely, and an unusual prize is on offer again this year.
The deadline for exhibit entries is the September meeting of the club on the 21st. This year there will be the usual array of awards, plus several that can only be won at Philly. If you'd like to enter, go to our web site at
www.phillyshellclub.org and follow the links to 'shell show' and then 'shell show rules', or contact our exhibit coordinator J. B. Sessoms at 609-653-8017.
Details of accomodation and other information can be found on the web site too.
I look forward to seeing you all in Philly next month,

Paul Callomon
President, Philadelphia Shell Club
