Years ago when collecting land shells in south Bahia State one of the locals told me they used the
slime of Megalobulimus to cicatrize small wounds. Then I read somewhere they made a cream based on
slime and called "Elicina"

So, next time you find a drooling snail on your garden you know what to do with it....

Assunto: Re: cough medicine form snails?

Dear Aydin,

I was again stymied by the posting process. The topic is snail
extract to get rid of a cough.

In the U. S. A. a lot of money is spent on cough suppressing
medications, and I think most of them are of marginal benefit and
have significant potential for abuse and/or side-effects. We could
use a non-sedating cough medicine, but I think neither the FDA nor
the pharmaceutical industry would allow prompt and easy exploitation
of this potential remedy.

One of the most basic problems is identifying an appropriate animal
model. Any ideas, Charlie?

Harry
