Regarding a General and overall learning book on the creatures of
the sea - I propose the out of print, but many used books of :

Marine Life An Illustrated Encyclopedia of Invertebrates in the Sea.
David and Jennifer George
(Principal Scientific Officer in the Zoology Dept. British Museum)
Jennifer is a Principal Lecturer in Life Sciences at the Polytechnic
    of Central London.

A Wiley-Interscience book.

I bought mine while land-locked and enjoyed the 128 pages of color
plates. This past year, I used it in helping sort out star fish
[ Echinodermata ] and it shows most in live undersea modes.
Some 27 Phylum are considered within.
