Howdy Jim,

I have used a rather simple trick for dealing with stinky shells over
the years and it seems to work rather well. First I rinse out the
offenders in clean, warm water, and let them drain. Then take a cotton
ball and dip it in alcohol then sqeeze it out a little and push it into
the shell as far as you can with out damaging it...you can also use an
eye dropper to put in a few drops of alcohol....finish this off by
putting more cotton in and putting the perc back in place. The alcohol
will dry out the tissues and generally this removes the bacterial cause
of the odor.

Good Luck,

Patti in New Mexico, at least for right now.
