Dear Emilio;
        Thanks for the tip - Seems most people, dealers included, are still
sticking to the name phuketensis Da Motta, instead of using the name
pretiosus Nevill, which Rockel et al (Manual of the living Conidae)
(albiet "provisionally") assign to the species. Several dealers
registed with Altavista are selling them, although they seem to be
rather overpriced, considering they are becoming a bit more common
recently (a good example of uncommon species sometimes not being a good
investment for dealers - i know this from "school of hard knocks
experience" - still haven't sold most of the milneedwardsi i bought a
couple of years ago, just when the price was starting to collapse!!).
This is a good illustration of how things can get get confusing in " The
Shell World", when experts disagree - you have various synonyms
(different names for the same species) being used by different people -
and very seldom does one see on lists that there are two (or more) names
being currently used for the beastie, since in most cases, the dealer
does not know either. I guess when you cannot find a species you know
not to be super-rare, you should start looking for synonyms!!
Aloha,
Ross.
