To all,
Thank you so much for the leads and ideas you have sent me in
relation to the "quest" for information on shells collected by mr. Banks on
the Endeavour Expedition. We have contacted the Natural History Museum in
London and are waiting for an answer from them. (Thanks Mel) We have
gotten a suggestion of a Cook-named shell (Cookia sulcata) from Sir James
Cheshire (Thanks James), information 0n the Solander/Lightfoot controversy
(Thanks Kay & Kevin) and a suggestion for a publication of the Banks' Shell
Collection from the Endeavour from Scott Jordan (Thanks Scott).
As you can see, not all the people with good ideas are at the COA
Convention. We continue to search for real species names before Saturday
so that The Lost Coast Shell Club can donate a few more shells for the long
voyage. It has been interesting to try to get information through the
internet. I wonder what the "information highway" was 2 hundred years ago.
Thanks to all
Dan Yoshimoto
