Radar surveys over the last 40 years of the sizes of migratory flocks has
documented a decline of about 50% in US songbird populations. Those
involved in the surveys note the loss of habitat as a factor but apparently
the most important factor has been the increase in predators, particularly
house cats at large. 'Possum and raccoon populations are also significant.
