Shalom all,
At some of your requests, I have been checking the subject of the blue dye
extracted from our local Murexes. In the days described in the bible, the
colour "tekhelet" (today meaning "light blue") is first mentioned in
connection with curtains used in the holy tabernacle. (Exodus 26, 4). Later
on, the colour was used in dying fabrics, and then, in the band of strings
attached to the four corners of the prayer shawl Jewish men use (talis).
There is an organization devoted to bringing the production of the dye to
life, and they sell this band of eight strings. Two or more of the strings
are dyed light blue. Their web sight is: www.tekhelet.co.il and it is worth
a visit.
The prices, however are cheaper here in Israel than those quoted on the net,
so if any of you are interested in some strings, you might want to contact
me for a cheaper deal. (I have no connections whatsoever with this
organization).
Sincerely, ME
