Hi Eduardo,

Thanks for the input on that perennial problem of indexing. Hank, who will
speak for himself soon, no doubt, is at <[log in to unmask]> His home
address (snail mail) is Hank Foglino, 4 Trent Court, Smithtown, NY 11787-1266

Your idea about including a page with the index in each issue is a good
one. You are correct about the errors too. If one were working on a single
issue only, the job would be smaller, thus less pressured and hopefully
more error free. However, I do see one big problem with your idea...it is
that, as things stand now, I would be the one who had to do this not
insignificant added job, since American Conchologist is created, edited,
printed and mailed out from my house. Things get pretty rough around
deadline time, and for the most part I am on my own.

But if there is a willing volunteer (or two? to check each other?) out
there, maybe we could work on the idea for the future. The original index
for American Conchologist is one that goes back to the beginning
(1973-1991) and was done as a labor of love by Winston Barney (who,
incidentally, also made the Horseconch-horn for the 1999 COA Convention in
Louisville). Many others got in on the act, including Walter Sage, and
yours truly, and then Publications-Chairman Betty Lipe, who kept it on her
computer and reproduced it as a huge labor of love. Karlynn is now in that
position of Publications Chair and keeper of the Index. Updates have been
done periodically, but they never keep pace with the issuance of American
Conchologist.

There has been some talk of doing it electronically, but it would take some
serious volunteers! However, once it was done, updating it wouldn't be
such a terrible chore.
