Paul,
  One additional caution is the material that the towel is made of.  I
once used an old T-shirt as a cleaning rag and it started dissolving in my
hand!  It was not one of my old cotton shirts but turned out to be a
synthetic one and the solvent was dissolving it.  Since then I stick with
100% cotton rags or paper towels which are cellulose and do not dissolve
in these solvents.
