Hi Kobie,
Yes I have tried chloroform on difficult to dissolve materials.  It's a good
solvent and dissolves some materials that xylene and toluene don't dissolve.
It has the added advantage of low flammability.  However it has the distinct
disadvantage of having very fast-acting toxic vapors.  I wouldn't recommend
it for home use.  It is preferable to remain conscious during the shell
cleaning process :-)
