A research associated position with USDA-ARS (RA-13-017-H) is now open
(Lincoln, Nebraska).
Major Duties: The incumbent will assess the feasibility of winter
oilseed production for biofuel in Midwest corn-soybean rotations;
quantify regional oilseed biofuel feedstock supply under variable soil
and weather conditions using process-oriented crop simulation models,
and identify regions where oilseed crop production is most suited to
meet needs for bioenergy production. Research methodology will also
determine potential environmental benefits of oilseed production as a
winter cover crop and estimate risks associated with delayed soybean
planting and quantifying potential soybean yield loss.
This position requires a recent (within the last four years) Ph.D. in
agronomy, agricultural engineering, or landscape ecology or a related
field of study that has equipped the applicant with the necessary
knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the duties and
responsibilities of the position. Knowledge of crop simulation
modeling and geographic information systems software are required.
Experience with agricultural production economics and the ability to
manipulate large databases are desirable.
