Marta and other DSSAT users:

The problem you are experiencing is related to memory. Most of the DSSAT
programs still run in DOS mode. Especially the application programs,
including the seasonal analysis program, require a large amount of DOS
memory within the 640 KByte DOS window. To check the amount of memory you
have available when running Windows95, 98, or WindowsNT, open a DOS
window. Type MEM and it will show several lines of information. The top
three lines are critical, especially the third one :"largest executable
program size" This should be at least 580 or 590 KByte. If it is less,
try to unload some of the device drivers. For most of your devices they
should be handled directly by the Windows operating system. See also the
DSSAT Install and Readme instructions distributed with your DSSAT system.

We are currently in the process of migrating DSSAT to Windows. Some
programs will be replaced with new ones, while the models will be compiled
with the Compaq Visual Fortran compiler. This should solve all memory
problems.

Regards,

Gerrit
