I have been collecting local freshwater molluscs this winter from riverbanks.  The rivers arefrozen, but until recently we
have had little snow so this combination of events actually makes finding stranded specimens quite easy to find.  Of course
I would have expected every critter to be dead - empty or frozen and thawed or still frozen, so you can imagine my surprise
when I found a small number of previously dead critters happily cruising around the perimeter of the bucket in which I was
soaking them.  (What's up with that!)
