I would like to mention John & Mary D'Aiuto. Mary was active as an assistant
to Dr. Myra Keen while she was at Stanford University. Mary proofread
manuscripts and assisted Dr. Keen in maintaining the malacological
collection at Stanford before they moved back to Florida. They were friends
with many stellar shell people [Walter Freeman Webb, et. al] of their day.
John and Mary together were avid personal shell collectors and ran D'Aiuto's
Thorny Oyster [shell dealership] for many years. I purchased their
collection in 1998 and I still haven't seen all of it - several hundred
thousand shells!!!! Including Land - Marine - Freshwater and of course,
California and Florida Fossil Shells. They did a lot for local shell cubs
here in Florida, they were active in COA, and occasionally appeared in the
Hawaiian Shell News journals, particularly, I remember for raising some
Conus ebraeus in a tank here in Florida!

Here is a couple in conchology that deserve a little recognition.

Bob
