I am sorry to see that all these 'conch-l's' are 'taking you to task'
(teasing you) !!!
I am glad to see that you are 'rolling with the punches' (another
colloquialism) ------ they mean 'gekra(e)nkt sein' ------ & perhaps have
not even investigated the 'purity' of the word ----- it has many
meanings --- as do do many words in English ---- that are stolen from having
so many 'Eltern' (Lateinisch, Franzosisch, Italianisch' -- USW) --- !!!!
When it comes to 'pique' (if you are into opera, ---- as I am) ----
investigate 'La Pique Dame" ------
Weird (which ignores the 'English spelling rule' ('I' before 'E', except
after 'C' --- etc.) & this is why English is so infuriating to a
'non-native' neophyte) ---- and even confounds the 'native born', usually !!
'Weird' in my mind (most simply & in colloquial understanding) ---- means
'unexpectedly unusual' ---- or an unexpected situation
/person/statement/reaction ETC.-----
One could describe/explain ' (mad?) King Ludwig of Bavaria' as weird ----
one could say the 'spelling rule' is weird (in its 'exception') ---- some
would think the whorls 'reversing' on some species of otherwise identical
shells, as being weird ----
Try telling that to 'Linaeus' or 'Darwin' ----- AND are the 'Finches' weird
for this same reason?
When I saw the spelling 'wierde' (sonic) ---- I immediately thought of 'auf
Die weide' ----- reminding me of 'meadow'!!!
Oxford (being English) --- must be ---- the 'ultimate' evaluator of the two
languages (nicht wahr?) (in that their roots are fairly common) creates an
opportunity for me to 'tease', also !!!
I am teasing you ---- ('pulling your leg') -- and the only language that
really 'confounds' people is Hungarisch &/or the language of the gypsies
(Rhoemisch)!!!!
'bizarre' ---- veru(e)chkt' --- are potential meanings ----- 'bizzarre' is
bizarre (closer to Franzosisch, for me) ----
On the other hand 'veruechkt' --- is closer to crazy ---- in my mind, ----
and in to-day's vernacular & my German experience, which is purely 20th
century ---
(my ancestors on my Mother's side are 16th century German
(Kehl/Straatsbuergem) ---- but my Father was English ---- from a coal-mining
background !!!)
