Thanks to you and your wife for the Japanese common shell names. I
printed a copy to keep for reference with my printed shell stuff. I
certainly hope more like this shows up. All of us realize the fallacies
with common names but we must also give credit to their use. My first
shell was not a Lambis crocata but rather a spider conch -- and a spider
conch it remained until years later (also about the time I figured out
that my Grandmother could not have found it on a Florida beach as I was
told).
By the way, I do not think pecten is a common name anywhere but among
shellers. Has anyone heard of a "pecten dump?" I thought not.
