I think i'm beginning to appreciate my rickety old Mac more each day -
there are so few Mac virus out there it's hardly worthwhile even
worrying about them, and so far as i know, there is NO way for a Mac to
catch a virus from email - *NOT* that i am one of these smug Apple
polishers that chortle with delight everytime a nasty new virus hits the
world that Bill Gates built, but.......
o yes - there is a cute little hoax going round recently - you get a
message saying that you may already be infected with a virus timed to go
off on such-and-such a date, but that if you go to a certain folder in
your OS and delete a certain file before then, you are safe. The trick
is that there IS no associated virus, and the file you are urged to
delete to avoid disaster, is vital for your computer's continuing operation!

Mollusc-related: just found out it isn't wise to ASSUME there are no
molluscs in a particular body of water, since you might be missing
something interesting: the rocks around where i live are all acidic -
slate and granite mostly. Accordingly, i never bothered to look for
Unionids and such in the river beside which i reside. A couple of
weeks ago, a friend came to me with some fresh-water clams he had seen a
muskrat munching: turns out there are 2 species of Unionid and at least
3 or 4 spp of gastropod in my presumedly too acidic body of water.
Remember that Succinnid that another local friend found in his aquarium
after inserting a Philippine marine mollusc? His chilren had been using
it while playing the river the day before - do i feel silly or what?
[blush] - o well, i STILL own a nice, virus-free Mac!

Chairs,
Ross.
