Jordan,
  My problem with this is that the several ink jet printers that I have
used all used inks that ran when exposed to water or alcohol.  I would
have to find a coating that resisted alcohol, was archival and did not use
a solvent that caused the ink to run when applied.  A tall order but a
noble undertaking. Let me know when you find the substance! :-)
