Afer pseudofusinus Fraussen & Hadorn, 1999 is from the eastern Atlantic
Ocean off northwest Africa.
My previous post may have been misleading.  Fusinus boettgeri Von Maltzan,
1884, is a valid species.  It is smaller, more heavily sculptured, and
considerably rarer than the shell Olivier pictured.  What happened was that
the larger shell somehow became wrongly associated with the name, and was
commonly sold by dealers under that name for a number of years.  When it was
recognized that this shell was not the real F. boettgeri, the new species
was then described, and in that process was determined to be a member of
Turbinidae rather than Fasciolariidae.  The real Fusinus boettgeri still
exists, and they occur in the same geographic area.
