I have been playing around with images of fossil species in
PhotoShop, adding color-patterns observed under ultraviolet light
(both shortwave & longwave give the same result). Though I am
certainly not proficient with altering images, you can choose a
color, set its opacity so that shell characters still are visible
through it, and "paint" it on with a "bruss" size of suitable
dimensions.

The results can be quite striking.

It is important to color those areas which glow under UV, as the
pigments glow; the dark areas are unpigmented. I expect that it is
resistant melanins which remain, and would have originally been
browns of various shades.
