David, I too have played with this predicament recently, without
resolution.

Turns out, this species is common with saltwater aquarists but has been
grossly misidentified as Strombus maculatus!
I wrote the supplier (out of Hawaii) that I believe has generated the
confusion but have received no word back.
It would be nice as I'm writing a short article to put this to rest.

Looking forward to hearing from the Columbellid experts out there!

Any opinions on whether Pyrene versicolor=Columbella scripta=Euplica
varians?

I've seen these used in different books and it looks like it may be
intended to mean the same Indo-Pacific species.
