Had a little more to add, I went to the OBIS Indo-Pacific Molluscan
Database to see how they resolve this dilemna:
http://data.acnatsci.org/obis/search.php/12050.
Is this the most current reference to go by?

David, I too have played with this predicament recently, without
resolution.

Turns out, this species is common with saltwater aquarists but has been
grossly misidentified as Strombus maculatus! I wrote the supplier (out
of Hawaii) that I believe has generated the confusion but have received
no word back. It would be nice as I'm writing a short article to put
this to rest.

Looking forward to hearing from the Columbellid experts out there!

Cheers,
Bob

Any opinions on whether Pyrene versicolor=Columbella scripta=Euplica
varians?

I've seen these used in different books and it looks like it may be
intended to mean the same Indo-Pacific species.
