Am passing along a request from an amateur malacologist in Belgium,
regarding scalarid forms. I hope the respondant(s) will reply to the list
as well as to Mr. Geerts, since this is an interesting topic and i'm
certain many on the list will be interested to hear the theories and
observations!!

Aplogies for cross posting......

Regards,
ross mayhew.

Scalarid forms of Cretan Albinarias Creta and scalarid forms in various
marine genera
.I was recently able to get several specimens of a scalarid forms
of the Albinaria teres complex found on
Creta , Greece. This form is well known to science and appears
in various publications on these little
critters. Many of us have come accross scalarid forms in various
marine genera like for instance in the family
Strombidae. They are often just described as entering in the
category of " freaks"Would there be a relation
of any kind between the existence of such a scalarid population in
an Albinaria species and scalarid
specimens in marine genera? Another somehow related question is
the presence or absence of costae in
a same species of Albinaria(FYI, these costae in Albinaria, just
like in some Helicidae are hollow) Any
relation between these costate specimens and marine genera that
also present smooth forms and ribbed
or costate forms(some Sth American Trophons for instance)?Tks much
in advance for your help on
         this.Kindest regardsCharles
