Colleagues,

I am conducting a straw poll of English-speaking shell people in order to solve a particular question one way or the other. Here it is:

William Healey Dall: how is his name pronounced? Does it rhyme with 'ball' and 'all', or does it rhyme with 'Pal' and 'Kal'?

To avoid gumming up the listserver, please cast your votes directly to me at [log in to unmask]
I will publish the final decision to a breathless world. Why does this matter? Well, I have to transliterate his name into a non-alphabetical language for a paper I'm writing, and this has to be done on the basis of its sound.

PC.
