Doug,

If you prefer something more protective against light and dust, take a look at
http://www.homedecorators.com/search.php?search=map+chest&go.x=9&go.y=7

Personally, I'd rather have a different kind of (single) handle on drawers not so wide horizontally.

I'm not too concerned about long-term effects of light and dust because I don't have many gem quality specimens and I'm not sure how much deterioration would occur in a usually dim, low-traffic room. Much of my collection consists of small and micro shells, some of them beach-collected and many in 1X1 inch zip-lok type bags. I can arrange to have the less-prized shells nearer to the handles.

The handle openings are about 7/8 inches high (max) by 3 1/2 inches wide. The clearance between drawers is about 1/8 inch.

I took a look at thess cabinets on-line, but was a little concerned about the handle. It would seem that both light and dust could freely enter the cabinet slowly degrading one's specimens through the handle. Do you share these concerns?
