I will  also chime in for FilemakerPro.  We have been using it for
years and manage all of our research collections with it (fish,
herps, plants, crustaceans, and mollusks). I also use it as a
bibliograpic database
(http://ellipse.inhs.uiuc.edu:591/mollusk/default.html). As has
already been stated it is very easy to use and is easily as powerful
as anything available for pc's (NSF needs to get up to speed on that
one).  One of the best things about it is that it is not hardware
snobbish (unlike Access).  It runs seemlessly on both Macs and PC's.
