G'day Alex,

I've been to Singapore many times (not to shell though) but for business. I do know that there are basically no restrictions in Singapore regards shells (surprising as everything else you do can attract a fine! Like chewing gum! Ha!). Can't really snorkel or dive there but there are apparently a few good intertidal collecting spots. Search google, I'm sure I recall a sheller from there having a site with info!

Bangkok is a waste of time re shells (I saw none on sale) but you can go to Pattaya (about 2hrs drive Sth East). Plenty of market stalls with shells both live shells for food and shells for sale. bad place though, very sleazy, the sex capital of Thailand. Thankfully I only stayed a few days and was diving! No intertidal collecting from what I saw but I did some dives in the Far Islands & Ko Samae San and found a nice 90mm tigris on a WWII shipwreck (highlight for me) and saw some other common shells various murex incl. giant murex, cyp arabiaca etc.

I imagine Ko Phi Phi would be no collecting like Phuket but have never been there!

Best of luck, let us know how you go!

regards,
Simon

Hi,

I'm going on a trip in April to include Singapore, Bangkok and Ko Phi
Phi. I'm looking to find interesting intertidal collecting sites, beaches
for small shells and micros, and shellfish/seafood markets that sell a
good variety of mollusks. As for Bangkok, if there is a town on the coast
within about 1.5 hrs, I would be up for the trip. Crossing over to nearby
Malaysia is an option from Singapore, but only if I can get there by
public transportation.

Any tips? How do I find out what collecting regulations there might be?

Many thanks!

Alex
