I watched a TV program last night on crustaceans. Part of the program
was devoted to hermit crabs, with footage of how they occupy a shell.
In the commentary it was pointed out that hermit crabs' abdomens are
designed to fit into a right-handed shell.
I had never thought about this before. Has anyone ever found a
left-handed shell occupied by a hermit crab?
Another question - are there other shells not in the whelk family that
are commonly left-handed?
Inquiring minds want to know.
