Having been a Plate Tectonics type since the mid 60's, I've long watched
with
interest various explosions, eruptions, column of ash and trash thrown
upon the
surface of the earth. I find some in other vocations completely unaware!
One of the most instructive is the Ring of Fire concept.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pacific_Ring_of_Fire

We ourselves remember one of ours - Mt. St. Helen blow half a mountain away.
[ Any and all mountains that have "Mt." are volcanoes, most of which are
dormant.
The city of Austin, Texas has 5 'active' volcanoes in town! However
they have been
sleeping for a very long time. ]

The more or less resent discovery of black smokers has been treated as a
odd but
interesting thing in the ocean. Look at this web site - the graphics on
the right ring
up what these smokers have done for eons.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_smoker

They pump caustic chemicals and deposit metals after the brew cools down
elsewhere.
H2SO4 and H2S are only a few nasties that come forth.

It has been doing this since the ring of fire was created and before as
magma chambers
boil. Without doubt they are all around the Philippines (lots of
shells) and South East
Asia and the Japanese region. Japan is building a new island in this
process as our
hot spot under Hawaii (big island) is being left behind as the island
chain moves North
west.

Massive sulfur domes, like salt domes populate themselves around the
Gulf states
and other areas in the world with like history.

So Acid is 'normal', it being constantly checked by the Earth and by nature.
We just need to be cautious in changing the balance so far that mother Earth
can't rebound. The 1800's - most of them - were very tricky years. Year
without summer and so forth. Krakatoa wasn't the 'big' one and by far!
It takes credit due to press and world wide changes.
